Battery status and charge reporting

power.battery-statusAutomaticHigh confidence

How it tests

Reads the battery's power-supply entry: present, status, capacity or charge now/full, design capacity, cycle count. Peripheral batteries are ignored.

How it decides

Supported: a kernel status and a sane charge level (0–100 %, or now no more than 10 % over full). Partial: one of the two missing or out of range. Failed: no battery or not present.

How sure it is

Straight from the kernel, and it's what the Waybar battery reads.

On a real Mac

  • On a MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2012): confirmed.

What could mislead it

  • Could pass when it shouldn'tValues that read but never update (stale firmware data).
